The Junior Music Course is Yamaha’s core program. It is where the story of the Yamaha Music School starts. JMC is a 2-year course for children who are between the ages of 4 and 5, and their parents. This course nurtures children’s creativity and develops their skills for playing keyboard and expression through feeling and understanding music. The curriculum of JMC was developed through extensive efforts of specialists in the fields of music education, pedagogy, child psychology, child development and others. The program methodology is based on ‘imitation and repetition’ – the most natural way of learning in children of this age. Students learn how to listen to music, sing it with lyrics or by solfege, play it on the Electone/keyboard, read it in a score, and even create their own music. They enrich their musical vocabulary and knowledge of musical forms, harmony, instrumentation and accompaniment.

Parents are required to attend this course with their child. The main reasons are to provide a sense of comfort to their child, learn and participate with them in the classroom, encourage them to be active in class, and support them with home practice. It is crucial that parents actively attend the classes and enjoy the lessons with their child, to be able to receive all the benefits of JMC, and create a stronger bond with music through family.
